Its that time of year, when we may be able to put aside some of our personal care rituals. There are some things though that really bug me more than my hairy legs! and that is..pilling on sweaters. There are much bigger problems in the world, I know!!!, but in my head I am yelling (at you sweater wearer)..."you can't see that!! The army of fiber balls marching up and down your arm and sides!! The culprit is moving your arms, unless you plan on living like Molly Shannon's character on Seinfeld (look it up). Purses and bags will tear at your knitwear as well, as pictured above. One of my favorite sweaters needed some care, so I took out my natural bristle "scrub brush" (I only mention that, because I love that it is a multi-task item, and you may have one lying around). Now gently swipe in the area - I SUGGEST in the opposite direction which the garment hangs ..upwards. That way you won't stretch the garment in a weird way. Can not say enough...gently in sort of a flick of the wrist sort of move. You aren't looking to break the thread or the weave, think of it as plucking - and you may have to blend out to unaffected areas, because the area may get fuzzy looking. There are fabric shavers, but I don't find them all that effective. So have a go at it!! I haven't tried this on synthetic knits (and really kids -you shouldn't be buying or wearing that) so I don't know if it will work, or if it works better.
