News hit today in Nevada, and was met with much snickering and eye rolling. The city of New York found out that MTA was paying bus drivers more than two month’s salary – on average to stay home and recuperate because someone spat on them. One city bus driver was quoted as saying “…..I would prefer to be slapped or punched in the face – than be spat on…being spat on is the worst insult a person can get” This news comes as the city of New York, and the MTA struggle with a huge budget deficit, and impending layoffs.
Workers in Nevada started to wonder if maybe there was something to be learned from the New York story. One worker I interviewed was surprised that there seem to be “…big pussy’s working in the Big Apple.” Many other “state” workers were surprised at the MTA largess, and have contacted attorneys to see if they can to collect some sort of compensation from the county of Lyon. “I have lost count on the amount of times I have had something – thrown –shot- or smeared on my face, and I haven’t gotten any time off” Cleo who has worked at the ranch for some time is one of many employees who want the same compensation.
Nevada’s mayor Oscar Goodman, has denied that the women have any ground to stand on. The state does collect a one time fee, from the brothels, and employees, but they are not considered employed by the state, and therefore not entitled to workers comp.
