On one of the recent premature summer days last week, I was walking around with a friend (of course wearing a pair of cute new shoes I thought was both comfortable and weather-appropriate) when it happened—that sudden explosion of pain where the back of your shoes hits your heel. Blisters!!! My friend—a girl with a serious shoe obsession and therefore deep experience with the “love hurts” relationship between women and their shoes—said, “Try some sugar packets.” What?! I’m not slowing down ‘cause I need a snack or craving sweets, sweetie! My feet are rejecting my sweet new flats!
“No, for your shoes, sugar,” she replied, sweetly. At the first coffee shop we passed (and not starbucks, can you believe?) I grabbed a couple packets of pure cane and popped a couple under each heel, as directed by my friend. Ah ha! And aaaahhh! It seems the little cushions of sugar raise your heel inside your shoe to the sweet spot that doesn’t get rubbed the wrong way. Walk resumed.
Sweet!
